Three Ave Maria baseball players had the chance to wear the game uniform for the first time in school history on Saturday afternoon in Daytona Beach, Florida. Chris Suchomski (SR/OF, Spring Grove, IL), Stephen Ori (JR/P, Irving, TX) and Brian Trymbiski (JR/Utility, Doylestown, PA) represented Ave Maria in the annual event at Embry-Riddle University.
Suchomski played all ten innings in centerfield, went hitless at the plate, but made some nice defensive plays. Ori pitched the fifth inning for the South squad, giving up a single in an otherwise flawless inning of work. Trymbiski spent his time as a DH for the South squad going 1-3 on the day with an RBI on his 10th inning single. The game ended in a 2-2 tie.
Besides the opportunity to represent Ave Maria, they also got valuable game experience against other programs as the Gyrenes prepare to open the inaugural baseball season on Tuesday January 26, 2010. They face off against Sun Conference opponent Warner University, who is currently ranked 20th nationally in the NAIA preseason poll.
