AMU's lone senior, Chris Suchomski, came up big for the Gyrenes Tuesday at Florida Memorial. Suchomski, who normally plays center field, threw three and two-thirds innings of relief without giving up an earned run. This set the stage for an impressive come from behind victory for the Gyrenes.

As the Ave Maria baseball team has shown over the course of the first season, they never quit during the Tuesday night affair in Opa-Locka, FL. The Gyrenes overcame deficits of 3-0 and 5-3 throughout the evening to escape with a 6-5 victory in ten innings.

Chris Suchomski proved to be the game changer for AMU, but this time he made the difference on the mound instead of his normal position in CF. Suchomski entered the game with the bases loaded and one out in the first inning and promptly induced a double play to end the threat in the first inning. Suchomski then proceeded to yield no earned runs over the next three innings to give the Gyrene offense an opportunity to tie the game 3-3, in the fourth inning after Tom Bracht singled to right field, driving in two runs.

The Lions regained the lead in the bottom of the fifth inning, scoring two runs to take a 5-3 lead. The score remained the same until the top of the ninth inning when the offense picked up the tempo scoring two runs on RBI singles by Brian Trymbiski and Justin Repullo. Trymbiski then delivered the fatal blow with a single in the top of the tenth inning which scored Travis Isensee from second, Isensee led the inning off with a single.

Bracht (2-0) picked up the victory on the mound by throwing two innings and retiring all six hitters he faced, striking out two Lion hitters. Ave Maria improves to 8-6 on the season while Florida Memorial falls to 5-7. After a shaky first inning on Tuesday night, which yielded four walks in 1/3 of the inning, the pitching staff settled down to limit the Lions to three walks over the final 9 and 2/3 innings.
