The Ave Maria University Baseball Team split doubheaders with Doane College on Friday and Spring Arbor University on Saturday. The Gyrenes remain above .500 with a 16-15 record.
Versus Doane University in Babson Park, Florida, the Gyrenes won the first game of the doubleheader 7-4 behind a solid effort from starting pitcher Stephen Ori. Ori threw 6 1/3 innings to earn the win. Tom Bracht received his fourth save of the season. Gabe Loweree, Tom Bracht, and Pete Lesniewski led the offense with two hits each. Carlos Padron had one hit and three RBI.

AMU continued their road trip into Saturday against Spring Arbor University from Michigan. The Gyrenes lost the first game 10-0, but were able to bounce back to win the second 9-8. The last three victories for the Gyrenes have been come from behind wins.
The second-game win was well earned as AMU came back from an eight run deficit in the bottom of the third inning. AMU scored 4 runs in the bottom half of the third to cut Spring Arbor's lead to four. Gyrene starting pitcher Justin James was able to hold SAU for the remainder of the game and struck out 6 batters. The Gyrenes' dramatic comeback was led by Alex Sanchez who doubled in the sixth inning to score Carlos Padron and tie the game at 8. Cody Muren then used a pinch hit opportunity to smack a single to right field scoring Sanchez and putting the Gyrenes on top 9-8.
