The Ave Maria University Baseball Team struggled to push runs across versus St. Thomas University despite the team’s 9 hits. St. Thomas took the game 9-1 at Veterans Community Park and improved to 18-18 while AMU dropped to 17-18.
Gabe Loweree was 3 for 5 for AMU with 3 doubles. Brian Trymbiski, Carlos Padron, Alex Sanchez, Cody Muren, and Travis Isensee had the remaining hits for the Gyrenes. Isensee would be the only one to score, and Trymbiski batted in AMU’s lone run of the game.
AMU’s pitchers walked 5 batters and hit 3 to allow the Bobcats to take the early lead and hold on for the rest of the game. Reliever, Nolan Luyk was AMU’s bright spot on the mound as he pitched 3 innings without an earned run. He struck out 1 and walked none.
The Gyrenes travel to Davie, Florida to take on NCAA Division II Nova Southeastern University in a single game April 6th. The game versus Nova is set for a 6 p.m. start. The next day, April 7th, AMU is to face St. Thomas University again in Miami, Florida at 6 p.m.
