Gyrenes Drop Two Games to Southeastern
AMU fell to 18-21 with a pair of losses to Southeastern University Wednesday afternoon.

The Ave Maria University Baseball Team lost Game 1 10-6 after having led 6-4 through the first five innings. Southeastern then took Game 2 by score of 13-6.

In the first inning, Tom Bracht got the Gyrenes on the board early with a base hit, and was followed with a base hit off the bat of Brian Trymbiski. Carlos Padron drove in Bracht with a single to center field. Pete Lesniewski doubled to right center and Trymbiski came around to score the second run.

Tom Bracht was 3 for 3 with a homerun, 2 runs scored, and 2 runs batted in. Bracht is hitting .291 on the season, and is third best on the team with 7 doubles. Pete Lesniewski parked a deep fly over the wall, and went 2 for 4 with a run scored and 2 runs batted in. The tall first baseman has been on fire at the plate leading the team with a .386 batting average that includes 5 doubles, 2 triples, and a homerun. His 23 RBI is third best on the team. Rounding out the hits for the Gyrenes were Trace McDermott (2-3), Brian Trymbiski (1-4), Carlos Padron (1-4, 1 RBI), and Edgardo Balentine (1-2). Trymbiski leads the team with 33 runs scored this season and has a .344 average at the plate.

AMU starting pitcher Nolan Luyk threw 5.1 innings allowing 5 hits and 5 runs (2 earned) while striking out 3. Tom Bracht took the loss for the Gyrenes.

In Game 2, Southeastern roughed up the Gyrenes for 14 hits and 13 runs. The Fire won the game 13-6. Clean-up hitter Carlos Padron led the Gyrene offense with a 3 for 4 performance that included a homerun and 5 runs batted in. Padron leads the team with 5 homeruns this season and is second best with 9 doubles. Pete Lesniewski was 2 for 3, leadoff hitter Travis Isensee was 2 for 4 with 3 runs scored, and Shanell Santiago was 2 for 3. Tom Bracht, Brian Trymbiski, and Justin Repullo each had one hit. Starting pitcher Cody Muren threw 3.1 innings allowing 3 hits and 4 earned runs while taking the loss.

AMU sits at 18-21 overall heading into next week's games at Clearwater Christian College. In the last meeting between them, the Gyrenes lost Game 1 by score of 2-1 before unleashing the offense and winning 21-4 in Game 2. Saturday's doubleheader in Clearwater, Florida is set to begin at 1 p.m. The game will likely be played at the same location as their last meeting; on the campus baseball field of Northside Christian High School.
