Sophomore Pete Lesniewski went 3 for 3 in the Gyrenes' final game. He led AMU with a .382 batting average.
Sophomore Pete Lesniewski went 3 for 3 in the Gyrenes' final game. He led AMU with a .382 batting average.

The Gyrenes concluded their season with a doubleheader April 24th at Thomas University (Georgia). AMU lost both road games (10-4, 4-1) despite winning 7-3 the previous night. Ave Maria finished its inaugural season with a 21-24 overall record.

In Game 1, the Gyrenes lost 10-4 as Thomas University's starting pitcher allowed just 3 runs and 5 hits while striking out 9 AMU batters. Offensively, the Gyrenes had hits from Brian Trymbiski, Travis Isensee, Carlos Padron, Pete Lesniewski, and Trace McDermott. Starting pitcher Stephen Ori received the loss after 4 innings pitched. He was relieved by Nick Keuler who allowed one run on 3 hits in two innings of work.

Game 2 ended in favor of the Night Hawks who scored four runs on 4 hits and 3 walks. Sophomore Justin James (5-4) threw six innings and struck out 7 in the loss.  AMU's Pete Lesniewski went 3 for 3 at the plate and finished the season with a team-leading .382 batting average. Gabe Loweree, Alex Sanchez, Trace McDermott, and Travis Isensee each had one hit. The Night Hawks improved to 31-15 heading into post season play.
