Michael Kolakowski will serve as AMU's defensive coordinator and defensive backs coach. He has been a successful coach and recruiter at the collegiate level for NCAA Division II and Division I institutions. 

In 2009, Kolakowski was at Youngstown State University where he was the defensive safeties coach and assisted with special teams. He was also the defensive coordinator and defensive safeties coach at Youngstown State from 2004-2007.

From 2007-2009 he coached at Central Michigan University as the defensive safeties coach while also serving as the special teams coordinator. At the College of William and Mary, coach Kolakowski coached the defensive secondary from 1984-1988. In 1989 he was William and Mary's defensive coordinator. He was a part-time assistant coach there during 1981 and 1982.

His career in coaching began in 1979 in Rock Hill, Ohio where he served as an elementary physical education teacher, assistant varsity football coach, freshman basketball coach and head varsity basketball coach. In 1980, Kolakowski was the freshman football coach at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. 

Kolakowski earned his Bachelor of Science in Health and Physical Education at Ohio Northern University in Ada, Ohio.
