The Ave Maria University Men's Basketball Team defeated the visiting Florida College Falcons 87-61 Saturday afternoon. The win snapped a four game losing streak and put the Gyrenes above the .500 mark once again. They are now 4-3 overall heading into next week's game against Florida Christian. The Gyrenes will play Florida Christian at home on Tuesday, December 8th at 7 p.m.
AMU came out strong in the first half shooting 46 percent (6-13) from behind the arc, and built a 41-22 lead at halftime. Freshman and Frisco, Texas native Tyler Cutrer led all scorers with 16 points in just 12 minutes played because of foul trouble. He fouled out of the game early in the second half, but was on fire as he walked away. He shot 60 percent from the field, and was 3-6 in three point land.
The Gyrenes shot 42 percent in the game compared to the Falcon's 28 percent. AMU took advantage of missed opportunities by the Falcon offense who missed 14 of 15 three point shot attempts.
Several others for AMU took care of business in what was a well-rounded team effort. Chris Jordan contributed 12 points and 2 steals. Colin Voreis and Marc Rozanski each had 9 points. Voreis grabbed 9 rebounds to go along with a steal and 2 assists. Rozanski had 7 assists.
Kiel Lewis had 2 assists and 4 steals in the game. The quick, freshman guard from Orlando, Florida is now averaging 1.7 steals per game on the season with 10 total.
With their four game losing skid behind them, the Gyrenes will look to take this momentum into Tuesday's game against Florida Christian.
