The Ave Maria Men's Basketball Team defeated the Florida Christian College Suns Tuesday night. The Gyrenes improved to 5-3 with the win. They shot an impressive 65.3 percent from the field while limiting the Suns to just 25.5 percent. AMU led 53-25 at halftime and continued to play well as the 103-62 final score reflected.
AMU's leading scorer was Dylan Fugate with 16 points on 8-10 shooting. He had 7 rebounds, 1 assist, and 1 steal. Jimmy Torney had 12 with 9 boards and an assist. Kiel Lewis, and recent player of the week Tyler Cutrer, each had 10 points. Lewis was 5-6 shooting with 4 rebounds, 2 assists, and 3 steals. Cutrer was 4-8 shooting and had 5 assists.
Colin Voreis, Chris Scanlan, John Wright, and Chamon Thomas each had 8 points. Santiago Barrios had 3 steals in just 8 minutes of play, and point guard Daniel Vivas handed out 6 assists. AMU was unselfish with the rock. Every player on the roster had 2 or more points in the game, and all but one player had at least 1 assist.
Joseph Wood led Florida Christian with 22 points. He hit 4 three pointers in the game and was 10-13 at the line.
The AMU men will play again on December 19th when they face conference opponent, Southeastern University at 3 p.m. The game will take place at the Donahue Academy Gymnasium. All are welcome as the Gyrenes face their first Sun Conference opponent of the season.
