Jimmy Torney has been named Ave Maria University's Male Athlete of the Week for the week ending 12-20-2009. The Women's Basketball Team did not play last week.
Junior and Braintree, Massachusetts native Jimmy Torney averaged 12.5 points and 5 boards last week. Versus conference opponent Southeastern University, Torney had 15 points, 2 rebounds and a steal. He shot 7-14 from the field. Then against NAIA foe Waldorf College, Torney had nearly a double-double with 10 points and 8 rebounds. He also contributed an assist.
AMU lost both games last week but played well in the second half of both games. The Gyrenes will play at home on December 31st against Emmanuel College at noon. Then on January 4th, they play Saint Xavier University home at 7 p.m. Come to the game to cheer AMU on as they look for momentum going into conference play.
On January 8th, 2010 the Gyrenes will begin league play in The Sun Conference when they face Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, Florida at 7 p.m.
The women play next at Lynn University where they face Barry University at 2 p.m. They begin play in The Sun Conference at home on January 2nd, 2010 when they take on Warner University at 2 p.m. BE THERE!
