Gyrenes Looking To Bounce Back After Miami Trip
Tuesday, January 19, 2010
by Eddie Anderson

The AMU Men had strong efforts from Chris Jordan and Marc Rozanski but couldn't get ahead of Florida Memorial University Tuesday night. The 53-45 loss puts the Gyrenes at 1-4 in The Sun Conference and 7-10 overall.

Chris Jordan had a solid game for the Gyrenes despite the loss to Florida Memorial. The 6'5" Junior from Jacksonville, Florida finished with 10 points. Marc Rozanski had an excellent game as well. This week's AMU Male Athlete of the Week, Rozanski, had a double-double versus FMU. He was 6 for 8 shooting to score 13 points with 13 rebounds. He also had a blocked shot and a steal. AMU post player, Colin Voreis turned in 8 points with 5 rebounds. Kiel Lewis scored 8 as well with 3 assists and a steal.

The Gyrenes pulled down more rebounds than the Lions but 23 turnovers kept the Gyrenes behind in the game. The Lions turned the ball over just 11 times during the game. The score at halftime was 23-20 in favor of FMU, and AMU was outscored in the second period 30-25.

The Gyrenes will play nationally ranked #10 Northwood University this Friday at home. In last week's poll Northwood was ranked #3 nationally. Northwood is 3rd in the conference standings with a 3-2 TSC record and 15-3 overall record. The Gyrenes have proven themselves as a legitimate contender against ranked opponents this year.

On January 4th, AMU upset then #10 ranked Saint Xavier University (NAIA D-I) 79-76. Then, on January 16th the Gyrenes topped Webber International University 81-63. Webber (5-1 TSC) is currently in 2nd place in The Sun Conference standings behind Embry-Riddle (5-0 TSC, 16-3 overall). The Gyrenes handed Webber their only conference loss this season. AMU currently sits in 8th place in The Sun Conference with St. Thomas University and Southeastern behind them at 9th and 10th.

Come out to watch the Gyrenes on Friday night when they take on Northwood University from West Palm Beach, Florida at 7 p.m. The game will be played at home inside the Rhodora J. Donahue Academy Gymnasium.
