The Gyrenes moved above Edward Waters College in the conference standings with an 85-82 nail-biting win Tuesday night, February 2nd at the Donahue Academy. They are 3-7 in the conference which puts them at 7th in front of Edward Waters and Johnson and Wales. Five players had spectacular offensive games for the Gyrenes.

Fugate added 15 points and pulled down 7 boards for the Gyrenes. He shot 6-6 at the line with 3 assists, a block and 2 steals in 33 minutes played. Rounding out the scoring effort for AMU was Chris Scanlan who came off the bench to score 10 on 3 of 4 shooting and a perfect 4 for 4 at the line. Scanlan is 41 for 46 from the charity stripe this year to lead the team with a .891 percentage. Colin Voreis claimed 7 rebounds in 23 minutes of play.

The Gyrenes were able to score a much needed bucket on a fast break just seconds before the end of the first half to get within 2 points of the Tigers. The Tigers were sharp on the offensive end as well with 5 players scoring in the double digits. EWC shot 46.2 percent from the field, and Ave Maria was able to match that with a 47.4 field goal percentage of their own. The Tigers struggled from the free throw line, making just half of their shots while AMU capitalized on 78 percent of their freebies.

AMU travels to #22 ranked Warner University tomorrow in a 7 p.m. contest in Lake Wales, Florida. Warner is currently tied for second with Northwood University in The Sun Conference.
