In the first half Johnson and Wales University scored first with a penalty kick at the fifth minute. AMU quickly tied the game two minutes later on a goal by Miguel Vera #10 courtesy of a Johnson and Wales goalkeeper mishap. Then, on the 25th minute AMU's Jose Jimenez #9 scored a beautiful goal from thirty yards away.
With the intensity of the first half carrying into the second, both teams were having equal opportunities to score. At the 35th minute freshman Alex Komninos #14 shot from twenty yards away scoring the third goal for AMU. Then, to seal the game at 4-1, a beautiful assist from #20 Christian Paz at the 42nd minute allowed #5 Ricky Mastandrea to score the 4th goal for AMU.
"The AMU
men's soccer future looks bright since we currently have thirteen freshmen on
our roster, from whom nine are in the starting line up. Yesterday, against
Johnson and Wales University we played our second Conference game, and it
was the first time we won. It's obvious that we have individual talent,
but as a team we still need more work. Soccer is a team sport.
A soccer team is like a musical orchestra. If one of the players
doesn't play to the same rhythm, the music will not sound very good. Little
by little our young gyrenes are growing up, and increasing their level of confidence; helping us to play more as a team. It seems
we can do it. We just have to work hard, help each other, and grow
together!" - Coach Santos-Zanelli
