Men’s soccer coach Tyler Rosser is proud to announce the signing of San Diego club and high school standout Carlos Celaya.
Carlos brings with him to Ave Maria a long list of soccer achievements. Carlos played with C.V. Pumas and their accomplishments include being champions of the Children’s Hospital Charity Cup, the San Diego Open Tournament, the Goya Cup, the Chula Vista Rangers Cup, and the 4th of July San Bernadino Championship Cup. Not only that, Carlos was selected as a sport ambassador for the summer youth friendship games. Representing the United States, he and his teammates won third place in that tournament. Carlos has also been involved in beach soccer, winning the South California Beach Soccer Championship with his team two years in a row in 2008 and 2009. During the Goya Cup in 2008, Carlos was awarded the most valuable player of the entire tournament.
Carlos is also actively involved in community service. In 2007, he was awarded the community service in Maui, Hawaii, for restoring the KO’IE’IE Fishpond with the Association of Fishponds of Maui. In January of this year, Carlos was awarded as an Eagle Scout by John Gottschalk, the president of boy scouts. His final project involved building an outdoor walking path Stations of the Cross.
Coach Rosser is excited to bring Carlos on board next year. Rosser says, “Our University prides itself on graduating young men and women who exhibit character and integrity on a daily basis. Carlos’ soccer resume’ speaks for itself, as does his long list of community service achievements. I could not be more excited for Carlos to continue his education here at Ave Maria. He will be a huge asset to our community.” Carlos is thankful for his parents and his club coach, Beto Estrella, for instilling in him the desire to serve others through sport and community service.
