Men’s head soccer coach Tyler Rosser is proud to announce the first signing of the 2011 class and member of Michigan’s state championship winning team, Cameron Ireland.
Cameron is from Metamora, Michigan, and has played soccer since he was six years old. In high school, he played for one of Michigan’s top clubs in MetroStars winning several tournaments including the highly competitive Cincinatti High Five Tournament.
Cameron played high school soccer for powerhouse Brother Rice and was one of only two sophomores to make the varsity team in 2008. That year, he guided his team to second place in the district tournament. This year, as a junior, Cameron started almost every game and anchored the defense to a state championship in Michigan’s largest high school division. In his upcoming senior year, Cameron will be moving to Kentucky and will finish his playing already stellar high school career at Ritz Memorial High School in Louisville. Upon graduation, Cameron will attend Ave Maria University starting in the fall of 2011.
Coach Rosser is thankful that Cameron has decided to continue his academic and athletic career at Ave Maria. He says, “Cameron has been the anchor of both his club and high school teams. Starting in 2011, he will also have the opportunity to anchor one of the Sun Conference’s best defenses here at Ave.” He continues, “After meeting Cameron for only several days, I could not have been more impressed with, not only his playing abilities, but also his character as well. He will do very well at Ave Maria.” Cameron is expecting more success during his senior year in high school and is thankful for the opportunity to continue playing soccer at the next level at Our Mother Mary’s school.
