Ave Maria University's softball team hopes to generate some offense as it prepares to take on future Sun Conference rival Northwood University at home this weekend. First game of the Saturday doubleheader is at 1 p.m.

The Lady Gyrenes just haven't been able to score during a 14-game losing slide that was extended this past weekend against St. Thomas University, another Sun Conference team, in Miami Gardens. Ave Maria lost 2-0 Friday and 7-1 and 6-1 Saturday to slip to 4-16 on the season.

Catcher Sarah Bronson (Cape Coral, Fla.) was the only bright spot at the plate for AMU with a pair of two-hit games on the weekend. Pitcher Janet Holtfreter (Deerfield Beach, Fla.) threw a strong game Friday, allowing just four hits in the loss.
