The Ave Maria University Softball Team took two losses Monday to Eckerd College, NCAA Division II program. AMU lost by scores of 11-3 and 14-1.
The Lady Gyrenes fell to 4-22 overall while the Lady Tritons, a member of the NCAA's Sunshine State Conference, are now 12-26-1. AMU gave up three runs in the first inning of Game 1 and scored a run of their own in the bottom half of the inning, but Eckerd took control early and held on.
AMU's leadoff hitter, Kaitlin Marotti went 2 for 2 with run scored and Chelsey Thompson was a perfect 3 for 3 with 2 runs scored. Erica Pfab batted in 2 runs. Angela Mullally was handed the loss on the mound after 4 innings of work. Janet Holtfreter threw the final inning and allowed no runs or hits.
Marisa D'Ambrosio had a 2 for 2 game in Game 2 for the Lady Gyrenes. She batted in the lone run of the game when she drove in Erica Pfab in the 4th inning. Chelsey Thompson and Kaitlin Marotti were each 1 for 2, and Janet Holtfreter had a pinch-hit base hit as well.
The Lady Gyrenes play Palm Beach Atlantic on April 10th in West Palm Beach, Florida. The doubleheader will start at 2 p.m.
