Mullally and Millich named AMU Athletes of the Week

Matthew Mullally of the Men's Soccer Team and Caitlin Millich of the Women's Soccer Team have been named Ave Maria University's Athletes of the Week.

Mullally, a Junior, has played every game this season at goalkeeper for the Gyrenes. On Saturday, October 18th, Mullally switched roles as he went from goalkeeper to play the forward position. New addition Gerardo Arias played goalie Saturday in Mullally's place.

The Gyrenes were down 2-0 to Florida Memorial University when Mullally scored on an assist from Christian Paz to make it 2-1. Paz had a tremendous game as well scoring twice on the night. Ave Maria tied the game at 2-2 on an assist from Mullally and a goal by Paz. Mullally totaled one goal and one assist in the 5-3 loss to FMU.

Millich, a Freshman, mid defender got the Lady Gyrene offense rolling early in the game against FMU Saturday. Millich took it upon herself to cut through numerous defenders and evasively bring the ball from mid field into the corner. From the corner, Millich hit Kelsey Smith with pin-point accuracy, where Smith knocked in the first goal of the game. Ave Maria led by two going into halftime but the persistent Lions fought their way back to upset the Lady Gyrenes 4-2.
