Dylan Fugate and Erika Derks Named AMU's Athletes of the Week

Dylan Fugate and Erika Derks have been selected as Ave Maria University's male and female athletes of the week for the week ending 11-29-09.

Fugate, a Freshman guard/forward from Valrico, Florida, led the Gyrenes offensively during their recent road trip. He averaged 19.5 points, 7 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 block, and 1.5 steals per game during the week.

On Friday, November 27th, he scored 16 points against Emmanuel College - last year's NCCAA National Champions. He also collected 6 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 blocks, and 2 steals. On Saturday, November 28th, Fugate led the Gyrenes with 23 points, 8 boards, and a steal in 35 minutes played.

Derks receives this honor for the second week in a row. She averaged 12.5 points and 3 steals per game during the week. In a winning effort against the University of Puerto Rico - Bayamon, she scored 12 points with 3 rebounds and 2 assists. She led all players in the game with an impressive 5 steals. On Wednesday, November 25th at division II Florida Tech, Derks continued her consistent play with 13 points and 3 rebounds. She also dished out 2 assists, blocked a shot, and made a steal.
