Ave Maria men's basketball player Kiel Lewis recently became only the second player in program history when he scored his 1,000th career point in Monday's 87-53 blowout win over Florida College.

On Monday, Lewis shot 6-of-9 from the field, 1-of-2 behind the arc, and 2-of-2 at the line for 15 points to lead all players in the game. His 1,000th point was made with 1:43 left in the first half when he created his own shot for a layup in the paint to put the Gyrenes up 47-24. He led all players with six assists while collecting three rebounds and a steal over 18 minutes played.

Lewis, an Orlando, Florida native, is averaging over 13 points per game with 288 total over the course of 22 games played this season. He ranks #12 in the NAIA in steals per game (2.286) and #17 in total steals with 48.

Last season, Lewis was named an USCAA First Team All-American as Ave Maria finished runner-up at the national tournament. The Gyrenes are currently ranked #2 in the USCAA national rankings, and have been at the #1 spot multiple times throughout the year.
