The Ave Maria men's basketball team fell to 13-10 overall and 2-7 in The Sun Conference as the Wildcats of Johnson & Wales University won 84-79 on the Gyrenes' home court.

Ave Maria trailed by nine at the half and was unable to climb back as the Wildcats earned their second conference win at 2-8 and 8-12 overall. Kiel Lewis, who reached 1,000 career points on Monday versus Florida College, led his team with 22 points on 8-of-13 shooting. He also had a team-high four steals and two rebounds with three assists. 

Dylan Fugate shot 6-of-9 from the field for 17 points with six rebounds. Akii Dean had four assists on the night with 13 points and a pair of rebounds. The Wildcats were led by Craig Wong's 24 points and a 22-point effort from Carlos Montilla. 

Ave Maria travels to NAIA #1 ranked Northwood University on Saturday for a 7 p.m. contest in West Palm Beach, Florida. The Gyrenes lost an overtime battle with the Seahawks 85-80 in their last meeting on January 11th. AMU returns to Ave Maria on February 6th for a 7 p.m. matchup with conference opponent Warner University. AMU won the last battle with the #22 ranked Royals in overtime 119-111.
