The Ave Maria University baseball team fell to 2-5 overall on Monday as the Sailfish of NCAA DII Palm Beach Atlantic University rallied for two runs in the ninth inning to steal at 5-3 victory from the Gyrenes at Bowie's Ballpark.

Freshman lefthander Chris Rheaume took the mound for Ave Maria and allowed just three runs over five innings, but PBA's Nic Novacs was sharp on the mound as well. Novacs threw 6.1 innings giving up three runs on seven hits with six strikeouts.

Sailfish relief pitcher Alejandro De Moya earned the win while Brian Mackin took the loss for AMU. Gyrene shortstop Alex Sanchez led the AMU offense with a 3-for-5 effort at the plate with a run scored and a RBI. Freshman designated hitter Nick Sacchetta collected a pair of RBI's hitting 2-for-4 with a double and a single.

The Gyrenes travel to Miami, Florida this weekend to open Sun Conference action with a three-game series versus St. Thomas University. Friday's game will start at 6 p.m., and first pitch of Saturday's doubleheader is scheduled for noon. STU is receiving votes in the NAIA's Top 25 preseason poll.
