Ave Maria University is having open fastpitch softball tryouts on Saturday, May 16 for unsigned 2009 high school graduates or unsigned junior college or transfer students with at least two years of athletic eligibility remaining. The Lady Gyrenes are recruiting for their first intercollegiate fastpitch team, which will begin play next school year. The team is looking for players at all positions, with special consideration given to those who can play multiple positions. Partial scholarships are available. To be eligible for admission to Ave Maria, 2009 high school graduates must have a minimum 2.8 GPA and a score of either 1580 on the SAT or 22 on the ACT. College transfer students must have a minimum 2.4 GPA. Time of the tryouts will be 11 a.m. at the softball field on the Ave Maria campus in Collier County.
