An invitation to all female students: Ave Maria University's women's fastpitch softball team, which begins NAIA intercollegiate play this year, is having a tryout for any interested students at 11 a.m. this Saturday, Sept. 5 at the field on campus.

It is strongly recommended that candidates have high school and/or travel team fastpitch softball experience. Team members will be expected to attend formal practices and scrimmages at least three times weekly from Sept. 7-Nov. 7, and practices and intercollegiate games at least four times weekly from Jan. 11-April 27, along with optional players-only conditioning workouts. There will not be practices or games during Thanksgiving, Christmas or Spring vacation breaks.

Candidates are asked to pre-register by e-mailing Coach Keith Gibson at keith.gibson@avemaria.edu and will be asked to sign a liability waiver. For Saturday's tryout, players should bring something to drink, a fielder's glove and cleats. Athletic shoes will suffice if cleats are not available and a glove can be furnished for those who don't have one.
