The Lady Gyrenes have lost eight consecutive games to tough Florida junior college and NCAA Division II competition, including 9-2 and 15-2 losses to South Florida Community College on Saturday. Ave Maria, now 6-13 overall, entered the fifth inning of both those games tied and down just one run before a series of mistakes let both games get out of hand. Chelsey Thompson (Jacksonville, Fla.), Sarah Bronson (Cape Coral, Fla.) and Marisa D'Ambrosio (Boerne, Texas) led the Lady Gyrenes offensively with multiple hits in the doubleheader.
