The Ave Maria University Softball Team lost Game 1 on Saturday 5-1 against Sun Conference team Northwood University. AMU bounced back nicely in Game 2 going into extra innings, but Northwood took the 4-3 victory.
AMU scored their only run of Game 1 in the first inning. Chelsey Thompson lined a single to left field, and was bunted to over and advanced to third by Erica Pfab. Sarah Bronson then reached first after being hit by a pitch. The run came when Bronson stole second base allowing Thompson to run in for the score.
Northwood would go on to score 2 runs in the third inning and another in the sixth to go up 5-1. For AMU, shortstop Chelsey Thompson went 2-3 collecting 2 of Ave Maria's 3 hits. Catcher Sarah Bronson had a hit as well.
AMU was tied with Northwood 1-1 through seven innings. Starting pitcher Samantha Crews tossed seven solid innings for the Lady Gyrenes, before Northwood took the game in extra innings. Crews allowed just 1 run and 5 hits through the first seven innings. Northwood would go on to win 4-3.
