Beker Escalante of the Men's Soccer Team and Carissa Posch of the Volleyball Team have been selected Ave Maria University's Male and Female Athlete's of the Week.

Freshman Beker Escalante, normally a mid defender, played goalkeeper for his first time ever against Johnson and Wales University. His penalty shot save in the final two minutes of the game allowed the match to enter overtime. The score was tied at 1-1 when he made the clutch save. The Gyrenes went on to win the game by score of 2-1. 

The match was close in shot attempts as Johnson and Wales had 19 and AMU had 24. Escalante was responsible for 9 saves, and allowed just one goal in 19 Johnson and Wales shot attempts.

Senior Carissa Posch was stellar on both offense and defense against St. Thomas University last Thursday, November 5th. It was the final game of the season for the Lady Gyrenes. They wrapped up their season with a 6-12 conference record in just their first year as a member of The Sun Conference.

Posch continually set the tone for the Lady Gyrenes as she was automatic in her kill attempts. She had 10 kills. Each kill seemed to come when AMU needed it most. Posch also denied the Bobcat offensive attack 5 times. Posch and fellow senior Saira Morgan led the Lady Gyrenes with 5 blocks each.
