The Lady Gyrenes came close to winning the third game of the match versus Palm Beach Atlantic University Tuesday night, but the Sailfish came away with the 3-0 (25-14, 25-11, 26-24) victory.
It was the last game of the season for Ave Maria University's Volleyball Team who finished the year with a 4-23 overall record having lost a significant amount of players from last year's 8-14 team. The NCAA Division II Sailfish, 21-8 overall, used a .291 attack percentage to defeat the Lady Gyrenes at the Donahue Academy Gymnasium in front of a packed crowd. The Lady Gyrenes held their own in the third game staying within a point during the majority of the game and were once tied at 24 apiece. However, PBA pulled it together to close out the game when Jennifer Eldrigde had back to back kills.
Christianne Ludwick had a team leading 9 kills for Ave Maria. Hayley Wonka played well on both offense and defense for AMU. She had 8 kills and 11 digs. AMU's setter, Megan Arago, racked up 20 set assists and led Ave Maria with 12 digs. Freshman Lilla Lukacs had 3 kills, 8 digs, and a block.
PBA's Janeen McCormick led all players with 11 kills. Christina Alessi and Mariela Queseda each had 9 kills.
