11/7/2008 Victory Bell Rings For Womens Basketball After First Home Game In History
AVE MARIA The crowd at Ave Maria that showed up to see a womans basketball game, saw a basketball game. Tonight the Lady Gyrenes played their first home game of their inaugural varsity season against Johnson and Wales University (North Miami, Fla.) and defeated the Lady Wildcats in a nail biter 61-57. The Ave Maria University women's basketball team wasn't as fortunate as its men's counterpart. The Gyrenes lost their first-ever game, 70-40, at Webber International in Babson Park on Saturday night.

Bob Batson has been named women's basketball coach at Ave Maria University, Batson and athletic director Brian Scanlan confirmed today. Scanlan also confirmed Elmer Tremont, who Tuesday announced his retirement, could join Batson as an assistant.
