Women's Basketball Team Wins Opener

The Ave Maria University Womens Basketball team won its opener, beating Pensacola Christian 78-43, with a well balanced offensive effort.
The Gyrenes led 44-24 at the half after Pensacola Christian hit two threes in the last 34 seconds to close the gap to twenty points. The Gyrenes opened the second half on a 17-0 run spearheaded by tenacious defense and accurate shooting.
Emily Huber led the way with 18 points. Sandy Jenkins had 15 points Erika Derks had 11 points and Amy Myler chipped in 10 points. The Gyrenes next play Southeastern University at 7:00 pm Friday.
