Women Cruise Past The College of the Bahamas 75-37

The Ave Maria University Women's Basketball Team had no trouble defeating the visiting College of the Bahamas Friday night. They ran away with a 75-37 win, and improved to 4-2 overall.

Erika Derks, a freshman guard, led all scorers in the game with 19 points and 3 assists. The Colgate, Wisconsin native was 7-12 in field goal attempts, 2-2 from beyond the three point arc, and 3-4 at the foul line. Sophomore, Carey Fullilove contributed 13 points with 4 rebounds, and shot a perfect 7-7 in free throw attempts. Mimi Loveland scored 12 on the night going 5-7 from the field. Sandy Jenkins was perfect in 4 free throw attempts and led all players with 6 rebounds. Jenkins also had 3 steals. 

The Lady Gyrenes were winning 38-19 at the end of the first half in the lopsided game. They did the same in the second half adding another 37 points to the College of the Bahamas' 18.

The Lady Gyrenes will square off at home tomorrow against the University of Puerto Rico-Rio Piedras in a 2 p.m. matchup. Following the women's game will be the men's game beginning at 5 p.m. The men will play Madonna University (Michigan), and look to continue their unbeaten streak to four games.
