The Ave Maria University Women's Basketball team defeated the visiting Southeaster University 65-51. AMU's record jumped to an even .500 at 8-8, while the Fire dropped their record to 4-13.
Southeastern made 13 of 36 three-point attempts but the Lady Gyrenes out-rebounded and out-shot the Fire. AMU was 48 percent shooting in the game while SEU was 32 percent.
Sandy Jenkins led AMU with 16 points and 8 rebounds. Carey Fullilove scored 14 with 4 assists, and 3 steals. Saira Morgan controlled the paint with 11 points and 7 rebounds. Morgan was a perfect 5 for 5 shooting. Erika Derks played all but one minute of the game and scored 10 points with 2 assists, and 3 steals.
Victoria Robinson had 17 points for the Fire.
The Lady Gyrenes will play at home versus Northwood University at 5 p.m. on Friday the 15th. The game will be followed by the men's basketball game against Warner University at 7 p.m. Both games are Sun Conference games. Be there!
