Saturday, January 16, 2010
by Eddie Anderson

The Women's Basketball Team dominated both ends of the floor, and defeated the visiting Johnson and Wales University Wildcats 80-36. AMU evened their record to 9-9 overall and 2-3 in the conference. Johnson and Wales dropped to 1-10 overall and 0-5 in league play.

The Lady Gyrenes are on top of their game heading into their next home matches against Clearwater Christian College (Tuesday 6 p.m.) and conference opponent Webber International University (Friday 5 p.m.).

Sophomore Sandy Jenkins recorded her first double-double this year and had a season high 17 points Saturday. She was 8 of 12 shooting with 11 rebounds and 3 blocks. Most impressively, Jenkins was limited to playing just 16 minutes in the game because of the lopsided nature of the match.

Freshman Erika Derks led all scorers with 20 points. It was her eighth double digit scoring game of the season. Derks is shooting an impressive 39 percent from behind the arc this season (14-36). She was 3-6 in three-point attempts in the game.

Guard Emily Huber dished out 7 assists for the second night in a row. She played 31 minutes in the game and scored 5 points with a block and 3 steals.

Sophomore Carey Fullilove is having an excellent week. In the recent win against the Wildcats, Carey had 9 points with 5 boards, 3 assists, and a steal in 22 minutes played. Last Tuesday against Southeastern, she had 14 points with 4 assists and 4 steals. Then on Friday versus Northwood University, Carey was potent on offense with 17 points on 5 for 7 shooting, with a three-pointer and a perfect 6-6 at the line.

Kristen Lange came off the bench to score 10 points in 13 minutes played. She was 3-5 shooting, 2-2 behind the arc, and 2-2 at the line. She pulled down 5 boards to compliment her assist and 3 steals.

For the Johnson and Wales Wildcats, Breanna Cook led her team with 13 points. The Lady Gyrenes did an excellent job on the glass as they outrebounded the Wildcats 51-26. Come watch the Lady's Basketball Team as they continue their momentum into Tuesday's game, January 16th at 6 p.m. The game will be played at their home location inside the Rhodora J. Donahue Academy Gymnasium.
