Cassie Kreiger, daughter of Stacie and Scott Kreiger, a 5'8" guard from Canterbury High School in Fort Wayne, Indiana has signed a letter of intent to play women's basketball for Ave Maria University.
Cassie and her Canterbury teammates won their third consecutive Indiana High School 1A State Championship this month, only the fourth team in state history to accomplish this feat. Cassie's team was 91-14 over her four year career. Cassie averaged 14 points, 4.2 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game her senior year. She finished her high school career with 1,093 points, 452 rebounds and 272 assists. Cassie was named to the Indiana State Finals All-Tournament team in 2009 and 2010. In addition, she was named one of Indiana's Top 60 Seniors in 2010, received IBCA All-State honorable mention in 2009 and 2010 and was an Indiana News Center Player of the Week in 2010. Cassie received two Most Valuable Teammate awards and one Leadership award from her high school team.
Cassie credits her success to her parents and three brothers, Colten, Christian and Cameron, her coaches and to her amazing teammates. Her father, Scott, the head girl's coach at Canterbury has had a major influence on Cassie over the four years he has coached her at the high school level. She was a key factor in Canterbury's success. Scott is looking forward to watching Cassie continue her career and obtain her education at Ave Maria.
Bob Batson, women's coach at Ave Maria is extremely excited about having Cassie join the program. "She comes from a winning program and knows what to do to be successful. She will help our program develop a champion's attitude." Cassie is the second Indiana player to sign with AMU, who comes from a championship program, joining Emily Huber, a 2009 graduate from Indiana who won State and USA Today National Championships with Ben Davis High School in Indianapolis.
