Coach Bob Batson has announced that Taylor Kress has verbally committed to Ave Maria University and will be playing basketball for the Lady Gyrenes in the fall. "Taylor brings college experience and to our young team. She is an outstanding rebounder and is quick and agile around the basket."
Taylor is the daughter of Tom and Tiffany Kress. She is a 6’0” forward transfer student from Sharpsville, PA where she was a 3 year letterman for the Sharpsville Blue Devils. She averaged 10 points and 11 rebounds in both her junior and senior year. She earned MVP honors at the Neshannock High School Christmas Tournament in 2008 and was named to the District 10 Region 2 Second Team in 2009. She was given WPIC Player of the Game honors in her final appearance as a high school senior after registering 12 points and 11 rebounds in a playoff loss to eventual PIAA AA State Champions Villa Maria Academy.
As a freshman for the Bethany College Bison, she registered 4 double doubles for the season with 6 starts. She was also nominated for the President’s Athletic Conference Player of the Week after contributing 16 points and 11 rebounds against St. Vincent College and 12 points and 11 rebounds against Washington & Jefferson College in February 2010.
Taylor has maintained a 3.75 GPA and was named to the Dean’s List in 2009 as a Pre-Med major. She is excited to make the move to Ave Maria University and would like to thank her parents and her little sister, Tatum, for all of their support and encouragement over the years. She would also like to thank her teammates and her coaches, especially Coach Hanley and Coach Kellar.
