Tampa, FL - Marya Haegler won the 3000 Meter Run at the University of South Florida Meet, while Taylor Peliska and Daniel Vivas placed in the 800 Meter Run.
HAEGLER WINS 3000 METER RUN AT UNIVERSITY OF SOUTH FLORIDA MEET
Fresh off of her All-American Run at the NAIA National Indoor Championships, Marya Haegler captured the win in the 3000m Run at the University of South Florida Spring Opener in Tampa on Friday.
Haegler won the event with a personal best of 9:50.60; improving her old best by 21 seconds. The field of 32 runners included athletes from Big East schools Connecticut, Marquette, and South Florida, as well as the University of Maine and several Division II schools. Haegler took control of the race with 600m remaining and finished strong. She had approximate 1000m splits of 3:21, 3:17, and 3:12.
Head coach Mike De Witt mentioned, "Marya Haegler continues to grow in her confidence and racing focus. She stayed off of the early pace set by the front of the pack and was able to move to the front at a key point in the race."
PELISKA AND VIVAS PLACE IN THE 800 METER RUN
Taylor Peliska and Danny Vivas competed in the 800m Run and earned 2nd and 5th place finishes in the event. Peliska's time was 1:58.45 and Vivas, who won the 2nd section of the event, ran a career best of 2:01.40.
Coach De Witt commented, "Taylor Peliska and Danny Vivas have been doing a great job of competing with some of the better runners in the state, and this meet included some good Division I athletes. They held their own and raced well."
The Track Team will be heading to the University of Miami for the Hurricane Open this week on Saturday. The full roster will be competing.
