The Ave Maria University women's soccer team opened its season with a bang. Lightning surrounded the women's soccer match between AMU and the visiting College of the Bahamas, but despite a long break due to inclement weather the game continued in favor of the gyrenes.

Beth Greve and Kelsey Smith were the top scorers of the game. Greve, a freshman, scored two goals and had two assists, while freshman Kelsey Smith also had two goals with one assist.

The Gyrenes were winning 3-0 at the half when the College of the Bahamas scored what would be their only goal of the game on shot by forward Myra Moncur.

Other scorers for the Gyrenes were Caitlin Millich, Dallan Diaz and Raquel Ledesma.  Diaz, Ledesma and Katie Condit all contributed one assist.

The women's soccer team will be traveling to St. Thomas University in Miami, Florida for a Sun Conference matchup on Wednesday, September 9th at 4 p.m.
